Family photographer Julia Cawley based in New York City shares with us a little insight about photo shoots in New York City.
From the overrated locations to the best ones in New York, Julia Cawley, professional photographer, shares with us her experience being a photographer in New York.
According to Julia, the most overrated locations for a photoshoot in New York City are definitely the ones that are too crowded with tourists: Dumbo Waterfront, Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty and even Central Park but this one is hard to stay away from because it’s “so darn pretty”. 🙂
LOVE IT !
That might sound strange but Julia doesn’t have a “go-to” spot. Here is the reason: “I like shooting in the areas that the family or couple that I photograph identifies with: could be their apartment, their rooftop, their neighbourhood, their favorite coffee shop, a playground… really anywhere.
I like shooting in an area that a family can identify with because my style is photojournalistic. So keeping a family in its natural surrounding gives me the most authentic photos. I don’t want to stage photos that aren’t real. I think there can be a good middle ground between formal family photos and pure documentation of the family. Think of it as lifestyle pictures.”
